Emotional Needs Of Scorpio Full Moon People, and How We Can Use This To Shape Characters In Our Writing
Take a deeeep breath, things are about to get intense...
We’ve had a bit of a welcome breather this past few days, where the skies have been quieter and the planetary energies less intense. Creatively I think it’s given us space to dream, think, and maybe even create without pressure, a bit like the early summer show that is going on outside in the northern hemisphere. Nature is putting on a passionate and dramatic display of blooms and beauty, everything blossoming, growing, greening, reaching, and brimming with vibrant life. I’ve been watching Bird TV every morning, and those of you who are on Notes will have seen some of my videos of the babies in the nestbox! For those who haven’t had this pleasure, I’m chronicling the brand new lives emerging from the eggs of a pair of busy blue tits. It’s honestly the best TV you could wish to watch.
Anyway! Back to the work at hand!
A full moon in Scorpio brings us some intense, passionate, and transformative energy to the emotional landscape. Scorpio is a water sign ruled by Mars (traditional) and Pluto (modern), and when the moon is full in Scorpio, it heightens our need for depth, intimacy, and emotional truth. Scorpio moon people crave meaningful connections and are often drawn to the mysteries of life, seeking to uncover hidden truths and confront deep-seated fears. They are not afraid of facing emotional intensity and may even find comfort in exploring the darker, more complex side of life.
For writers, creating a character with a Scorpio moon allows for the exploration of themes like transformation, loyalty, secrecy, and resilience, not to mention all taboo subjects like sex, death, and taxes. Scorpio moon characters will be emotionally intense, perceptive, and unafraid of exploring their own shadows or the shadows of others. They’ll seek to bond deeply with others but may be wary of vulnerability due to past experiences - think someone who maybe appears to blow hot and cold, or who is enchantingly curious about their chosen person, but can’t quite let down their guard enough to fully trust them. This blend of emotional depth and guardedness makes Scorpio moon characters intriguing and complex.
Scorpio Moon: An Overview
Scorpio is a sign of emotional depth, mystery, and transformation, and the full moon in Scorpio amplifies these qualities. People with this placement experience their emotions with great intensity and often have a strong desire to form deep, intimate bonds. Scorpio moons are loyal and passionate, yet they can also be secretive and wary of betrayal. They are often drawn to situations or people that allow them to explore the depths of human emotion, and they are highly intuitive, with a natural ability to sense what lies beneath the surface. They also have a deep and long emotional memory. Each joy is catalogued - but so is each and every hurt.
In writing, a Scorpio moon character may be portrayed as someone who is intense, magnetic, and private, with a strong sense of loyalty. They might struggle with trust issues, fearing vulnerability or betrayal, and may have a hard time letting go of past hurts. The grudge is real with these guys! Their journey often involves learning to trust others and embrace vulnerability, even as they pursue truth and transformation.
Key Emotional Needs of Scorpio Moon People
♟️ Emotional Depth and Intensity
Scorpio moons must have depth in their emotional connections. They are not satisfied with superficial relationships or small talk; instead, they crave intense and meaningful connections where they can be fully seen and understood. A character with a Scorpio moon will feel emotionally unfulfilled in relationships that lack depth, pushing them to seek out intense or transformative bonds.
♟️Trust and Loyalty
Loyalty is paramount for Scorpio moons, who place a high value on trust in their relationships. They often fear betrayal and may be slow to open up emotionally, even when they long for connection. A Scorpio moon character might be deeply loyal to those they trust but will struggle to forgive if that trust is broken. Their journey may involve finding people who respect their boundaries and can offer the loyalty they seek.
♟️ Desire for Truth and Authenticity
Scorpio moon people need authenticity and honesty, both in themselves and others. They often have a “no-nonsense” approach to emotions and will not tolerate deceit or insincerity. By “no-nonsense,” I don’t mean in the practical way of an earth sign, but more in the matter-of-fact ability to detach emotionally from those who have hurt them. A character with this moon placement will demand honesty in relationships and have little patience for anything they perceive as false or shallow.
♟️ Fear of Vulnerability and Emotional Guardedness
Scorpio moons have a complex relationship with vulnerability. While they crave deep, meaningful bonds, they may fear exposing their true selves, which can make them guarded or secretive. A Scorpio moon character is likely to struggle with showing weakness or trusting others with their emotions, and they may keep their feelings hidden fro most other characters as a form of self-protection.
♟️ Transformation and Emotional Resilience
Despite their fixed sign nature, Scorpio moons are resilient and often undergo periods of intense emotional transformation. They’re drawn to situations that challenge them emotionally, as they sense that these experiences give them opportunities for growth. In writing, this can create a character who is constantly evolving, using life’s challenges as a way to deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them, and this can build a really satisfying story arc.
Developing Characters with a Scorpio Moon
If we’re writing a character with a Scorpio moon, we need to consider their need for depth, their guarded nature, and their desire for transformation. These characters are often intense, private, and loyal, with a unique blend of resilience and vulnerability. Here’s how you can use these qualities to add layers to your character:
🌶️ Intensity and Passion in Relationships
Scorpio moon characters are known for their intensity, especially in relationships. They are deeply committed and loyal to those they care about, and they seek emotional bonds that are transformative and all-encompassing. This can create compelling and dramatic romantic subplots, where their desire for intimacy clashes with their fear of betrayal. (In other words: stereotypical steamy romance alpha males…)
For example, a Scorpio moon character might have a passionate but tumultuous relationship, where they crave closeness but struggle with jealousy or fear of abandonment. This intensity can lead to emotional highs and lows, as they navigate the complexities of trust and vulnerability. The character’s journey might involve learning to trust their partner and accept love without suspicion or possessiveness.
🌶️ Mysterious and Guarded Personality
Scorpio moon characters tend to keep their emotions hidden, only revealing their true selves to those they trust completely. They are often seen as mysterious, with an aura of intrigue that draws others in. Kind of magnetic and alluring. This guarded nature can make them enigmatic characters, who reveal pieces of their emotional world slowly over time.
In a storyline, a Scorpio moon character might have a secret past or hidden pain that they reveal only to certain people. This sense of mystery can add tension to the narrative, as other characters (and the reader) are drawn to uncover what lies beneath their composed exterior. Their reluctance to open up can create challenges in relationships, as they struggle to balance their need for privacy with their desire for closeness. Crucial tension in a plot.
🌶️ Resilience and Transformation Through Adversity
Scorpio moon characters are incredibly resilient and are often shaped by intense or transformative life experiences. They may have faced hardship, betrayal, or loss, and these experiences have deepened their emotional strength. In a storyline, this resilience can make them compelling characters who grow and evolve through adversity.
A Scorpio moon character might undergo a personal transformation after a difficult event, emerging stronger and more self-aware. This transformative arc can be powerful, showing how they use their pain as a catalyst for growth. Their journey might involve confronting their fears, letting go of past traumas, or embracing a new sense of purpose. This arc can give them a sense of purpose, as they learn to rise from their own ashes, like a phoenix - and if you like to write in a series, it’s easy to believe that a Scorpio moon character can transform again and again, as necessary.
🌶️ Drive for Emotional Truth and Authenticity
Scorpio moons have a strong desire for truth and authenticity, often finding superficiality distasteful. They are unafraid to confront difficult emotions or ask hard questions, making them emotionally honest characters. This honesty can make them intense, but it also creates a foundation of trust for those who value sincerity.
In writing, a Scorpio moon character might be the one who pushes others to face uncomfortable truths or challenges their friends to be real. They may have little patience for surface-level interactions, preferring depth and honesty. This quality can lead to conflict, as their bluntness or insistence on honesty might be unsettling for others, especially those with ‘lighter’ moon placements. However, it can also make them valuable allies to characters seeking truth or personal growth.
🌶️ Struggle with Letting Go and Forgiveness
Scorpio moons can be deeply affected by betrayal or loss, and they often struggle with letting go of past hurts. They may hold onto grudges or struggle to forgive, even as they seek to move forward. In a character, this can manifest as a reluctance to trust again after being hurt, or an inability to forget past wrongs. Clinging onto the past can create all sorts of difficulties that are excellent for plot development.
For example, a Scorpio moon character who was betrayed by a loved one might carry that pain for years, affecting their subsequent relationships and outlook. Their journey might involve learning to forgive, not only for others but for their own emotional peace. This arc can add layers to the character as they grapple with the decision to either hold onto past pain or let it go in order to find freedom and healing.
Writing a character with a Scorpio moon allows us to explore themes like loyalty, transformation, secrecy, and resilience. These people and characters are emotionally intense and passionate, often seeking truth and depth in their relationships. They may struggle with trust and vulnerability, but they are also capable of incredible emotional strength and growth.
By understanding the emotional needs of a Scorpio moon, you can create characters who are mysterious, loyal, and willing to confront life’s darker aspects. Their journey may involve learning to trust, embracing vulnerability, or letting go of past pain, making them complex and memorable figures. Scorpio full moon characters bring an aura of depth, mystery, and intensity to any story, capturing the reader’s attention with their magnetism and resilience. Whether they are forging deep connections, seeking truth, or rising from personal struggles, they embody the transformative power of facing one’s shadows and emerging stronger on the other side.
May we all embody a bit of the resilience of the Scorpio moon during this time, as the full moon lights up those part of us that perhaps we’d prefer to keep hidden, and encourages us to be brave enough to face our shadows and walk with them back into the daylight.
Happy full moon, folks. Wishing you creativity, and a bit of peace this full moon to consider what you want to release, to make space for what will light you up.
Blessed be,
Jen xx

I’m really feeling this full moon in Scorpio and have been for a few days. My moon is in Scorpio at 29 degrees. I’ve been journaling and crying to release. I am all of those qualities you describe, more than my Aquarius sun. I wonder if that’s because I’m an HSP and feel things deeply. Goes off to journal a bit more. Full Moon Blessings to you lovely Jen!
